Rory Butcher Leads The Way In Day One Of BTCC Testing

The BTCC Season looks to be back in full force with the Goodyear Tyre test at the Snetterton circuit. As Rory Butcher set the pace just before the lunch break in his Motorbase Performance Ford.

It wasn't great start to the day though for the Scot as he stopped on the front straight after coming out of the pits, which halted the session for a few moments. But Rory got back going again and set a fast in the optimum conditions.

“Today has gone well and it’s good to be at Snetterton will all of our competition,” said Butcher.

“The car has been really good straight out of the box. We just had a slight niggle this morning – an electrical issue that halted our first run – but since then it has gone really smoothly and we’ve worked our way through our plan.

“We’re definitely in a good place with the car. We decided to do a proper run at the end and see where we are. It turned out to be a good lap and the car was mega. Overall, this new Ford Focus is feeling fantastic.”

We also saw the new Cosworth-developed Toyota Corolla TOCA Hybrid machine take to the track for the first time. As the Speedworks run car went out for scheduled Preparation & installation laps, driven by Darren Turner.

Tom Chilton had to settle for second-place ahead of the Manufacturer backed Toyota driven by Tom Ingram, With Jake Hill, Dan Cammish & Stephen Jelley, Rounding out the top

Michael Crees continued to get used to his new Honda, after shifting over from the Volkswagen.

All together the 26 cars completed over laps between them in the morning session with another plus in the afternoon session.

As a heavy shower during the lunch break slowed down proceedings and kept drizzling through the afternoon with no improvements coming out from the session.

Jack Goff was the best driver to run in the slippery conditions, setting a around 7 seconds off the pace of the first session.

All the action will be back today, as the pits open at for the morning session, with the afternoon session going between with live updates on my twitter & live timing on TSL Timing.
